Why You Should Practice Yoga

Three words: Quality of life. Two of the main reasons our students at Sankofa began their yoga practice is for stress reduction and injury prevention/assistance. Yoga can help soothe the mind, lower stress levels and alleviate insomnia, hypertension, obesity, anxiety, stress, diabetes, high blood pressure and more. Practicing yoga also reduces your risk for injury. Each yoga pose targets specific muscles, organs and body systems, which is why it's best to experiment with different styles based on your current needs. Here's are just some of the benefits:

Step #1: Create a MINDBODY profile so you can register for class. 

Step #2: Purchase our $49 New Student Special to enjoy unlimited classes during your first 30-days with us. 

Step #3: Join us in-studio or virtually at New Student Orientation (NSO)!

Step #4: Register for classes using our scheduler. 

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

(IN-PERSON)

Enjoy an Intro to Yoga class and chat afterwards to receive insight on the best classes aligned with your specific health + wellness goals. Meet other students as well as instructors and learn more about our community. Sessions are 90-minutes, FREE and offered in-studio at our upstairs location on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (VIRTUAL)

New to the studio, or yoga in general, and have questions? Learn more about our classes and approach to yoga. Receive insight on the best classes aligned with your specific health + wellness goals. Meet other students and learn more about our community. Sessions are 30-minutes, FREE and offered virtually on the 2nd & 3rd Thursday of the month at 12:00 pm.

Our New Student Journey is a progressive practice that teaches students new to our studio the core foundations of yoga in a safe and engaging environment. You’ll learn alongside other students and get to know what our commUNITY is all about!

Enjoy unlimited classes at our studio for 30-days to get a feel for the best classes aligned aligned you.

 

How does the New Student Special Work?

The New Student Special is only available to first time students. Purchasing a drop-in or any other pass will make you ineligible to enjoy our promotion. Your one-month pass begins at your first class reservation and/or expires one year after purchase. You are responsible for cancelling your class reservation if you can no longer attend. Wellness services, workshops and Prenatal Yoga classes are not included.

What Classes Should I Take?

Our classes are appropriate for students of all levels. Yogis are encouraged to try a variety to determine which ones are best. On our Class Descriptions page, you will that we've situated our classes into categories:

  • Meditation/Mindfulness

  • Stretch-Focused

  • Vinyasa/Flow 

  • Gentle/Relaxing

  • Workout-Focused

  • Yoga Philosophy

Enjoy a daily dose of peace and balance and begin to make this practice part of your weekly routine.

How do I take your In-Studio classes?

We look forward to sharing space with you. Kindly read our tips below:

  • Pre-register for class online as we do not accept walk-ins.

  • Bring your own yoga mat

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts 

 

When you arrive at the studio, kindly remove your shoes at the door and place them inside the cubby. Our coatrack is located at the back of the studio near our restroom. Next to the restroom you will also see, Satya, our treatment room where our wellness services like massage, reiki and sound healing take place. The floors are marked where to place your mat as we keep a safe and healthy distance for yogis.​

We do not accept late entry. Doors lock three minutes after class begins.

How do I take your VIRTUAL classes?

To take our VIRTUAL classes, pre-register on MINDBODY at least 30-45 minutes prior to the start of class and you will receive an email from FitGrid with a Zoom link at least 15 minutes before class starts. Select the class that says "VIRTUAL" in the front of the name. If you're comfortable, turn your screen on to get the most out of your class. This way our instructors can assist you and stay connected!

Our $49 New Student Special allows first time students to take unlimited classes at our studio for 30 days! We encourage students to take as many classes as possible to get a feel for the best classes aligned aligned you. Before you enjoy your New Student Special, join us at New Student Orientation where we can personalize a wellness plan that best fits you!

After you've completed your 30-Days at Sankofa, join us in membership! As part of our member community we offer many packages to suit different budgets, lifestyles and goals.  With single class drop-in starting at $20 and memberships beginning at $59, we have an option for every person.  Reach out to us today so we can help you find the ideal option for you!

Age Limit

The minimum age to attend class is 16 years old.

One Registration Per Person

Each student must create their own account and register for classes individually. You cannot purchase an additional drop-in pass for a friend.

After you create your account, download the MINDBODY App and add Sankofa Yoga to your favorites. The app makes it super easy to register and cancel your classes at the click of a button! NOTE: Memberships cannot be purchased on the app, you can only do that online here.
