Monthly Events
An Invitation to Come Home to Yourself.
Welcome to the Sankofa Events page.
At Sankofa, every month is an invitation to come hOMe to yourself. Each month, we curate intentional events that nourish the mind, body, and spirit — from yoga and movement to mindfulness and connection.
Spotlight Classes are special, limited-time offerings created to invite deeper focus, seasonal intention, and experiences that feel a little different from our regular weekly classes. These classes give us space to slow down, explore a specific theme, and gather with intention—meeting the moment we’re in, together.
With care,
The Sankofa Team

Take It Outside
Series
This season at Sankofa, we’re stepping beyond the walls of the studio and into something just as essential—nature, movement, and community. We’re introducing our Take It Outside Series.
SANKOFA WALK CLUB**
We're stepping outside for a weekly walk designed to help you reset in the middle of your week.
We’ll gather at Sankofa, head out for a 45-minute walk, and return to the studio. No pace to keep up with—just a simple, consistent way to move your body and be in community.
Pull up after work. Bring a friend or come solo. Either way, set aside the time for you.
Led by Coach Vaz, an avid walker, outdoor enthusiast, and Sankofa instructor, this weekly Wednesday gathering meets at 6 PM and begins and ends at Sankofa.
This is an 8-part series, meeting weekly on Wednesdays at 6PM from May 13 to July 1, 2026.
MINDFUL OUTDOORS: NATURE WALK/HIKE**

All locations are within 15 minutes of Sankofa.
Led by Sankofa's Rooted Outdoor Facilitators trained in mindful movement and nature-based practices.
This is a 5-part series, meeting bi-weekly on Sundays from May 17 to July 12, 2026. Locations vary—please check our website for details on each session.

The womb is more than a biological space — it is a vessel of memory, lineage, and power. This course explores Black women’s reproductive histories and the ongoing struggle for bodily autonomy and wellness. Through the lenses of public health, womanist ethics, and ancestral wisdom, students will trace how race, gender, and medicine shape the reproductive experience — from historical trauma to the present maternal health crisis. We’ll explore what it means to reclaim the womb as a site of knowledge, creativity, and collective healing.

Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Location: Sankofa

Settle in for an evening of quiet connection and spacious unwinding as the year winds down. We’ll begin by sharing tea—an invitation to arrive fully, slow your breath, and soften into the present moment. From there, we’ll move into a guided meditation to ground the body and open the heart.
Afterward, the space becomes yours to explore. Bring your own creative crafts, journaling practice, knitting, or simply enjoy low-key coloring materials provided. Or use the space to just relax. This is a time for unhurried creativity—no expectations, no pressure, just a supportive space to drift, make, reflect, or simply be.
We’ll close with a short meditation to gather what unfolded and return to ourselves with clarity and ease.
This gathering is for anyone needing a soft landing, a creative pause, or a moment of rest held in community.
Come as you are. A variety of tea will be available to explore. Bring your favorite mug to sip from, along with your creative craft.

The Return is Sankofa’s annual wellness retreat, now in its second year. It’s a full day outdoors designed to give you space to step away from the pace of everyday life and settle into something slower — with guided sessions, movement beneath trees, opening and closing circles, shared meals, sound baths and stillness, and space to breathe.
Last year, it all came together in a meaningful way. People arrived and found their rhythm — some easing into conversation, some keeping to themselves, all sharing a similar energy. There was warmth, laughter, good food, and a steady sense of calm throughout the day. Nothing forced, nothing rushed, just time to be amongst others or on your own, and leave feeling more settled than when you arrived.
That’s what we’re returning to this year. This is my invitation to you.
