Peace Family,
Words cannot express how grateful we are to serve you in this capacity. You selected Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center as your cOMmunity of choice and to share this blessed art of yoga with you means the world to us. Working arduously to combine yoga and mindfulness to promote self-care and coping strategies to underrepresented populations affirms my work as an educator, community organizer and holistic health practitioner. Your time as a member is an amazing journey in which we will embark together.
I found yoga at a time when years as a community organizer had taken a toll on my well-being. After years of visiting neurologists, massage therapists, and chiropractors to ease migraines and tension headaches, stress and anxiety had gotten the best of me. It was time to make a conscious change. After short stints of practicing on and off years prior, in 2011 I was recommended to practice yoga consistently, and it completely transformed my life.
I immediately fell in love with yoga’s ability to relieve stress, promote mental clarity, and empower my body. The practice not only grounded me, but also complimented my marathon training and weight training routines. It was then that I realized that I wanted to deepen my practice and help spread yogic good on and off the mat. I enrolled in my first yoga teacher training program in 2012 and quickly I learned that asana was not even the half of this beautiful practice. As a scholar and seeker, the ethical principles allowed me to fully understand and embrace yoga as a powerful tool to stay connected.
In July 2019, my husband, Marcus, and I opened Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center seeking to create more spaces to foster community, relationships, healing and wellness. In November 2020 we opened Sankofa Health Center to further it's cause and foster inclusivity and diversity in community health. Sankofa essentially means to return to the source, and it is our intention to cultivate the healing space and learning environment that allows you to do just that.
I pray that this membership experience meets your expectations and that your yoga practice grows as a result of our time together.
Monthly Guest Pass
Each month, members receive one guest pass to share with a loved one (who is not a member). So that our administrative staff can verify your remaining guest passes; and confirm space in the class for your guest, we ask that you:

-
please complete the below Guest Request Form in advance (at least 5 hours prior to the requested class. Weekend classes must be submitted by Friday at 4pm); and
-
please have your guest create a Sankofa account here (if one is not already created)
Please click HERE to submit your Guest Request Form.

Missing information or completion of this form outside of this window may delay or prevent your guest pass from being approved. Once the form is submitted, our administrative staff will reach out soon to confirm availability.

Monthly Auto-Payment: How It Works!
Membership comes with our convenient auto-renewal; here's how it works! Membership renews every 30 days from your initial contract billing cycle. For example: if you enroll in membership on March 15, then every 15th of the month will be an automatic payment from your account and your membership contract will renew.
Class bookings are available from the payment date through the day before the next payment date. For example: if your membership date is March 15, you can book classes between March 15 - April 14.
Membership Over The Years
At Sankofa, we honor the membership you joined at the time you enrolled. Over the years, our membership offerings have evolved, and as a result, members remain on the specific membership plan and rate they originally selected for as long as that membership stays active and in good standing. This means that:

-
Members who joined in earlier years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 & 2025) may have a monthly membership that is no longer publicly listed on our website.
-
If you do not see your exact membership listed online, it is likely because you are grandfathered in and in a legacy membership, which is still valid and honored as originally offered.
-
Legacy memberships do not automatically convert to newer memberships or include newly added benefits unless a member chooses to change plans.
-
New membership options, rates, or added benefits apply only to the memberships they are associated with and are not retroactive.
Please note that if a member cancels and wish to rejoin, the member will be asked to enroll under the current membership offerings and rates available at that time. We do this to maintain clarity, fairness, and consistency while continuing to grow and improve our offerings for the community. If you ever have questions about your membership or would like help understanding your options, our team is always happy to assist.
Membership Cancellation
There is a 90-day minimum commitment before any membership can be cancelled. Should you cancel your membership prior to the 90-day commitment you will be charged the remaining balance.
To cancel your membership, please send an email to info@sankofayogacenter.com at least 30 days before the next billing cycle. A member of our team will follow up with you to confirm cancellation.

Membership Pauses
We understand that life sometimes calls for a break. We offer membership pauses for the following:
-
Military Members with Deployment Orders: Pauses are available with a documented return date.
-
12-Month Contract Members (Legacy): A one-time 60-day pause is available.

To request a pause, please email us at info@sankofayogacenter.com. This ensures we can process your request and maintain the balance of our shared community.
No-Show Policy
At Sankofa, we strive to create a space that honors the principles of Asteya (non-stealing) and Ahimsa (non-harming). To ensure fairness and respect for all students, a $10 no-show fee will be applied to members who miss a reserved class without canceling.

This policy helps us maintain balance in our community by allowing other yogis the opportunity to practice and ensuring resources are shared mindfully.
