Exploring Yin, Restorative and Yoga Philosophy
August 16-18, 2024
School is back in session, yogis! Join us for a transformative 3-day training designed to deepen your practice, facilitate your delivery of dharma teachings, and enhance your teaching knowledge of both Yin and Restorative Yoga. Each day focuses on distinct aspects of yoga, providing you with comprehensive knowledge and practical techniques to enrich your classes and support your students' well-being.
COURSE OBJECTIVES & LEARNING OUTCOMES

Explore yoga philosophy and dharma talks to deepen your understanding of the spiritual and ethical dimensions of yoga.

Gain insights into integrating philosophical teachings into your classes to inspire and uplift your students.

Dive into the therapeutic benefits of Yin Yoga, exploring long-held poses to release tension and enhance flexibility.

Explore the balance between active and passive stretching to optimize physical benefits and restore energy flow.

Experience the profound relaxation of Restorative Yoga, using props to support gentle, nurturing poses
Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion. The immersion ensures a total of twenty (20) continuing education credits (CECs) with Yoga Alliance with each module with its own respective credits.

The training course comprises three sessions held over a culminating weekend. While attending all three sessions is highly beneficial, this modular format accommodates individual preferences and the availability of participants.
SESSION 1 | Facilitating Dharma Talks & Yoga Philosophy

SESSION 2 | Yin Yoga, Breathwork, & Active/Passive Stretching
Saturday, Aug. 17 @ 10:30 am - 6:00 pm IN-STUDIO

SESSION 3 | Cultivating Rest & Support with Restorative Yoga and Meditation
Sunday, Aug. 18 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm IN-STUDIO

Q: Who is this training for?
The immersion is for yoga teachers who have completed a Yoga Teacher Training certification. The training was designed exclusively for yoga teachers looking to enhance their skills, deepen their understanding of yoga philosophy, and refine their teaching methodologies in yin yoga and restorative. This immersive program offers a blend of advanced practice, theoretical knowledge, and practical teaching insights to empower you as a confident and impactful yoga instructor.
Q: Why should yoga teachers participate in immersions?
Yoga teachers should participate in yoga teaching immersions to deepen their practice, refine their teaching skills, and expand their knowledge base. These immersions provide several key benefits such as: advanced learning opportunities, refinement of teaching techniques, personal growth, community and networking, and continuing education. This course is eligible for 20 continuing education credits through Yoga Alliance.
IN-PERSON TRAINING
Friday (session one) will be held virtually and recorded for those unable to attend live. Saturday (session two) & Sunday (session three) will be held in-person at our studio, 300 Main Street, Laurel, MD, if health and safety conditions permit. We are in accordance with Prince George's County Executive Orders. In the event we must pivot, livestream/online learning will be set in place via Zoom. To view our training facility, click here.
TUITION
The comprehensive package for all three courses is priced at $350. Alternatively, individual course rates are as follows: Session One at $125, Session Two at $150, and Session Three at $150.

The program reserves the right to cancel or postpone any training before it begins. In that case students will either be contacted to reschedule, be refunded in full, or given studio credit. If a student can no longer attend a training session, the program will not give any refunds, however, such amount can be applied towards a future training program. ABOUT YOUR TEACHER TRAINER:
Dr. Tamisha J. Ponder, PhD found yoga at a time when her years as a community organizer had taken a toll on her well-being. Learning how to navigate stress and anxiety through her own yoga practice, Dr. Ponder decided to become a yoga teacher in 2012 to share with her community. She is an E-RYT 500, RPYT, YACEP, RYS, Reiki Master Teacher, Thai Massage Specialist, Fertility Doula, Birth Doula, Death Doula and the founder/owner of Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center. She is is rooted in community healing and community advocacy. Dr. Ponder interviewed Black Lives Matter activist women about legacies of 21st century community organizing revealing that radical self-care and mental wellness practices became unintended byproducts. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Language, Literacy and Culture; a master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies: Health and Sexuality, and a bachelor's degree in journalism with minors in History and Black Women's Studies.
