Welcome to the Sankofa Outdoor Club. We gather to move, breathe, and reconnect—with the land, with each other, and with ourselves. Through forest bathing, mindful hikes, seasonal planting, and justice-centered conversations, we honor the earth as both teacher and healer.

The Sankofa Outdoor Club is a learning hub for experiential education and guided stewardship—where movement, breath, and nature exploration meet hands-on skills for caring for the earth. Together, we engage in curated outdoor experiences like forest bathing, mindful hikes, and embodied movement on the land, all grounded in restoration and collective growth.

This is a space to breathe deeply, learn from the land, and reflect by the water—while gaining hands-on experience in outdoor adventure and mindful nature practices, from hiking and forest bathing to camping, kayaking, reforestation, and beyond. Our work opens conversations on land stewardship, water preservation, and sustainable futures—ensuring members are equipped with both knowledge and practice.

This fall, our focus is on outdoor education and skill-building through the Rooted Outdoors™ Facilitator Training Program, preparing club members with the tools, confidence, and awareness needed to lead mindful, healing experiences in nature. This foundation will guide our expanded explorations in 2026.

Rooted Outdoors™ Facilitator Training
Level 1

Step into the role of a nature-based facilitator with this one-day immersive training designed for outdoor enthusiasts, yoga teachers and wellness guides who want to create safe, meaningful, and inclusive outdoor experiences.

Whether your vision is to guide forest bathing sessions, meditative walks, inclusive hikes, or yoga in the park, this training will equip you with the skills, awareness, and confidence to lead with intention and care.

What to Expect:


Held on local trails and parks, the day weaves together:

  • Breath-led walking and mindful movement

  • The art of forest bathing and sensory awareness practices

  • Core outdoor leadership skills, including trail safety, group dynamics, and accessibility

  • Nature-based facilitation rooted in presence, connection, and cultural awareness

  • Land reverence practices that honor both the earth and the people who walk upon it

 

You’ll learn how to hold space outdoors in a way that is safe, inclusive, culturally aware, and attuned to the healing potential of nature. Through experiential learning and reflection, you’ll leave prepared to guide others in connecting deeply with the natural world — while deepening your own relationship to it.

​We’re offering two chances to complete Level 1 of Rooted Outdoors™ Facilitator Training this fall—your only opportunity before Level 2 launches in 2026! Sign up now to secure your spot and stay on track to continue your certification journey next year.

Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm​

Tuition: $199

Location: This training will take place outdoors at a local park within 25 minutes of our studio in Laurel, MD. The exact location will be shared with all registered participants. See course details for more information.

Upon completion of the coursework and evaluation, participants will receive a certification of completion and certification in outdoor facilitation. For those that are yoga teachers this will enable you to gain for continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance (YACEP.)

Once all three steps are complete, your place in the training is confirmed! Follow the links below to get started.

The program reserves the right to cancel or postpone any training before it begins. In that case students will either be contacted to reschedule, be refunded in full, or given studio credit. If a student can no longer attend a training session, the program will not give any refunds, however, such amount can be applied towards a future training program.
