We are an exquisite tribe of birth workers and perinatal professionals supporting families in the DMV and surrounding areas. Our team is comprised of dedicated birth and postpartum doulas + support staff who are information-driven with experiential philosophy, certified and insured, bringing you unique quality care in the very essence of you. We center the voices of mamas, families and stakeholders and aim to reduce and prevent the rising rates of maternity mortality. Trust us, our entire team is a vibe!
Our Team

Antwanette Summers
Birth & Postpartum Doula
Antwanette (she/her/hers) is a full spectrum doula serving the DMV area. As a mother of 3, she realized that each pregnancy has a different outcome, and every pregnant person deserves the support they desire. She supports all pregnant persons with a specialty in high-risk pregnancies and birthing preparation through spinning babies training. Being certified as a childbirth educator, her focus is to educate pregnant people on advocating for themselves. Click here to watch her video!

Teara Booker
Birth & Postpartum Doula
Teara (she/her/hers) is a dedicated, compassionate abortion, birth and postpartum doula. Prior to becoming a doula, she was a licensed Paramedicine provider. Teara prides herself as a non-biased and inclusive support provider and respects, admires, and appreciates the uniqueness of each and every birth experience. Tamara Davis
Birth & Postpartum Doula
Tamara (she/her/hers) is a birth and postpartum doula. She is a mother if of three children and a fur baby. She holds a degree in psychology and is certified as a master resilience trainer. She is a United States Army Veteran and Army spouse and has over 20 years of working in health care as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Medical Assistant and Health Tech. Maya Carpenter
Birth Doula
Maya (she/her/hers) is an educator and DONA birth doula in the DMV area. She is an advocate for bodily autonomy, informed consent, universal healthcare, education reform, and social justice. She is skilled in the art of labor support, and works hard to ensure that labor can be a normal, natural, healthy and calm process for all. Melishe "Maati" Ivey
Birth & Postpartum Doula
Melishe (she/her/hers) is Birth & Postpartum Doula, Educator & Perinatal Health Specialist, who comes from a powerful lineage of healers, birth workers, and medicine women. For over 20 years as a doula and whole health provider, she has provided support and continuity of care to women and families from preconception through childbirth, postpartum, and beyond. Scheera Robinson
Birth Doula
Scheera (she/her/hers) is a Birth Doula, Registered Yoga Instructor (RYT), Meditation Teacher, Reiki Practitioner and Holistic Health Coach. Most importantly, she’s a wife and mother of two beautiful little girls. Scheera understands the importance of creating a mindful, safe, supportive, comforting and vulnerable space during pregnancy and after and provides mindful and holistic tools to help families gain internal awareness while embracing parenthood. Kela Ballard
Prenatal Yoga Teacher
Kéla (she/her/hers) began practicing yoga and found a peace that could not be described, both on and off the mat. With a passion for mental health and education in social work, it didn’t take long before she grew in her desire to learn more about various mindfulness practices and share yoga with others. Kéla is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), Registered Prenatal and Postnatal Teacher (RPYT), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with an interest in Perinatal Mental Health who hopes to use her classes as opportunities to hold space for your light (and baby’s light) and whatever you need.

Alicia Carter
Prenatal Thai Massage Specialist
Alicia (she/her/hers) is a Prenatal and Postpartum Thai Massage Specialist, Reiki Practitioner, Meditation Guide and Mental Health Coach. She has over 10+ years of experience as a social worker in the arena of mental health/psychiatric care, child welfare, domestic violence, at risk teens, child abuse and neglect, drug/alcohol abuse, drug exposed newborns, and social work policy. Often in stressful environments, Alicia found that meditation allowed her to be more aware, in tune with herself, and gave her control over her emotions and positivity.

Nyela Amadi
Certified Nurse Midwife
Nyela (she/her/hers) is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Women's Health Practitioner with a specialty in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She is experienced Labor and Delivery/Mother-Baby with a demonstrated history of successfully working in the hospital & health care industry. Though Nyela is not taking deliveries at this time, she still provides quality care to our patients at Sankofa Health.

Meghan (she/her/hers) is a senior Biology major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Towson University. She is a pre-med student working towards becoming a physician with emphasis on Women's Health. Her research interests includes: community based healthcare and the social determinants of health.

Tamisha J. Ponder, A.B.D.
Founder/Owner, Birth Doula
Tamisha (she/her/hers) is the CEO of Sankofa Moon and founder/co-owner of Sankofa Yoga and Wellness and Sankofa Health Center. She is a fertility doula, certified birth doula, prenatal and postpartum yoga teacher, Reiki Master, Thai Massage Specialist and Holistic Life Coach. She is currently completing her doctorate and hold's a master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies: Health and Sexuality. She specializes in holistic reproductive health, reproductive justice, the overmedicalization and historical experimentation of Black and Brown bodies, and Black women's agency in health and wellness.
